The current rate for membership is $97 USD per month. You can pay monthly (at the start of each month) as a 3-month subscription, or you can pay for all three months at once for $291 USD.

Once you've completed your 3-month onboarding cohort, you'll have the option to continue at the same rate monthly, quarterly, or annually (with a special discounted package and extra bonuses). 

The three-month membership requirement is only for new members, so you have time to settle in and really start making progress toward your goals.

Our schedule changes depending on the needs of our active members. So even if the current schedule doesn't work for you, that doesn't mean it can't be adjusted if enough members share the same restrictions. 

Currently, the best shared meeting time is on Thursdays between 11am and 1pm Mountain time. So as of December 2025, this is still the current date and time for our twice-monthly live video calls and for my drop-in office hours in the off weeks.

Nearly everything else happens asynchronously (so, on your on time).

Yes! In order to join the Story Sorcery™ Society, you must be a published author of romantic fiction in book format of at least 50k words under your own name. By my definition, "romantic fiction" includes romantasy, urban fantasy, and romantic suspense that is a prominent, primary romantic relationship of book (or series) plot arc. Scroll up to see the other specific requirements.

I specialize in romance books. It's my happy place, and it is my professional zone of genius. I can provide nuanced, transformational support for romance writers, so I only work 1:1 with this specific genre.

I also work at an advanced level. I've learned through my years of editing, teaching, and coaching romance writers that beginners tend to feel overwhelmed by my feedback, and that's not the experience I want for you.

I know how jarring the idea of an application might feel. And I want to reassure you that the benefits of this process go both ways. It's just as important for us to be a good fit for you as it is for you to vibe with our established group dynamic.  

Since we operate under a common code of ethics and purpose statement, the simplest way to be sure the Society will fit your needs is by a series of questions. The application is simple and straight-forward, and it will only take a few minutes to fill out.

You'll know before you finish it whether the program will be a good fit for you. Once you've submitted your application—assuming we're a good match—I'll contact you for a quickie video chat to answer any questions that either of us still has.

And that's it! If we agree that we're a good match, you'll receive your invite almost immediately after our call. 

All members commit to a 3-month membership each time we welcome a new cohort of authors into the Society. We want you to have plenty of time to get to know our members and start forming those ultra-important personal connections. 

Our curriculum has also been designed to slowly bring you up to speed on my personal storysmithing techniques and frameworks. We have a thorough onboarding process where I walk through through each step of learning our membership platform (Heartbeat) and setting yourself up for success with our program tools.

After that, you can choose to continue on for another quarter with us (and welcome in a new cohort of fresh members as an alum) or bow out and take a break. Once you've completed your first new-member cohort, you will also have the option to lock in an annual rate (at a discounted rate, with a special bonus).  

When you're a published romance writer working toward supporting yourself with a full-time publishing career, you need personal help. Broad, vague, high-level DIY stuff just won't cut it.

I want to be sure you get help with what you need, when you need it. That means that I need to save time and space for you in my daily schedule. And I can currently only support 15 members at this high-touch level of service.

I've been a member in group programs where I was one of hundreds. It wasn't what I needed, and it lacked the warmth and personal connection that makes The Story Sorcery™ Society so special. So I only open up new member spots when I know I can support you in the way you deserve. 

During our group Q&A calls, our members take turns in the "hot seat" and get my direct feedback on your questions and story problems. Since these discussions happen in front of any other members present on the call, it's not private coaching, but it is personal. 

The benefit of working in public, so to speak, is that every member brings their own unique professional experience and personal perspective to the table. Some of our members' biggest breakthroughs happen when the whole group joins the conversation. 

There are no outright requirements, but we do expect you to show up and contribute as much as you're reasonably able.

For example, if accountability activities are just not your thing, simply don't participate in those. If you're not jiving with a particular mini-training, skip it.  

Or if you have travel plans and know you'll be away for a while, that's okay. We all need downtime. If you have a family emergency or physical difficulties that limit your energy, that's also okay.

The Society is intended to elevate and support your publishing career, not stress you out. So what's most important is that you come into this program excited to listen, share, and collaborate.

This is not a place for lurkers. The Society is for doers.

The rate you join at is the rate you lock in for the duration of your time as an active member. 

However, if you do need to take a break and decide not to renew your membership, your new rate will be whatever the current pricing is when you decide to return.

I expect the new-member price to increase over time, as the program matures and the cost of my own hosting services increases. So the best way to lock in a low rate is to upkeep an active membership in the program.  

As long as there is space in the program, we'll open up for applications in the month before the start of each calendar quarter. For example:

• Apply in December to join the January cohort
• Apply in March to join the April cohort
• Apply in June to join the July cohort
• Apply in September to join the October cohort, etc

No. This isn't an all-inclusive membership. (I find that model too restrictive and expensive.)

I've found that most writers don't need forever access to a program once they've learned what they need from it, especially authors publishing at the professional level. I'd rather price this program affordably and include bite-sized learning that you can incorporate into your daily work. 

Your enrollment in my standalone courses and workshops is completely separate from your membership in The Story Sorcery™ Society. 

Neither... and both. Because how you write doesn't matter.

This program isn't just about writing. It's about flourishing as a professional romance writer. I help you set challenging (but reasonable!) career goals and support you as you work toward them. That looks different for every person.

And that's why we have two live calls a month, where you can show up, be seen, and get the help you need. You can also reach out anytime on our private member forum to get help from me and your fellow Society members.

As long as you are an active member in good standing, you'll have full access to everything your membership includes. 

Once your membership ends, your access to all of the membership areas and benefits will end as well. This program is different from my on-demand self-service workshops and courses, because it is always being updated and supported in real time. 

Officially, there is a 7-day refund period (which you can read more about here), but it is not intended as a trial membership (and I don't offer trial memberships outright) or as a safety net for buyer's remorse. 

This program has limited space for members, and I only open enrollment periodically. So once you commit to filling one of those spots, I expect you to complete at least the initial 3-month financial part of your membership term agreement.

For this same reason, except in special or extreme circumstances, I also do not offer refunds for reasons outside the program terms mentioned here. The 7-day refund policy is intended to protect against situations where a new member joins and immediately realizes that the group dynamic will be unhealthy for them personally. This is something that you and I should get a feel for during your application and interview—that's why those exist—and is an unlikely scenario.  

The same goes for trial periods. Since we have a thorough, thoughtfully curated application process and require a 3-month commitment upon joining, having a trial program wouldn't make sense.

Personally, I (Sue) am "AI friendly". While I don't agree with the blatant piracy that AI companies engaged in to initially train their models, I also know that we can't put the genie back in the bottle. AI is not going away, and ignoring it or trying to boycott it only limits us as individuals.

I believe that as long as we use AI responsibly, it can be a powerful tool to help us become more knowledgeable, efficient, and productive in our careers. 

I do not condone the use of AI as a replacement for writing. Your stories should come from you, and they should be fully touched and guided by you as the creator. 

And I do not share any of my professional or student data with AI platforms for training purposes. Your content belongs to you, and it is safe with me.

But I do believe that strategic use of AI in business, creative, and personal capacities can help us grow in ways that it doesn't make sense to ignore. 

The publishing landscape has changed. And the more adaptable we are—within our personal moral and creative boundaries, of course—the more AI can empower us as humans. 

If you are 100% anti-AI and are unwilling to collaborate or connect with anyone who disagrees with that belief, this program will not be a good fit for you.
